The Environmental Defense Fund recently sponsored a meeting in the Sebastian area, and another in Stuart, to push for Individual Fishing Quotas – Catch Shares. According to Southeastern Fisheries Association, the 200+ fishermen in attendance were unanimously opposed to Catch Share implementation…..The name Environmental Defense Fund sure seems to be coming up a lot these days. They say they only want catch shares to help the fishermen….. Well gee whiz! I don’t want to sound ungrateful, but with all the Feds are doing for us, and the Fish and Wildlife Commission working so hard on our behalf – not to mention all the environmental groups that are already supporting us, I just don’t know if we have room left for any new friends.
