According to the Key West Citizen, a bill has been introduced in congress to give commercial fishermen 80 million dollars a year for 5 years to use their boats for other activities. House bill 4914 would pay fishermen to work with scientists on research trips and use their boats for marine debris removal and coastal cleanups……Gee, just when we thought our elected leaders had no interest in saving our fishing industry, we find out that they really do care after all. It sounds like a tough choice between a scientist’s gofer, and environmental hero, but we’ll just have to see which one offers up the best deal. I know this may sound a little ungrateful, but I sure hope they hurry up with the money, because I’m already planning on how to spend my share.
