Papers Please

America’s rapid descent into authoritarianism continues apace. Governor Maorio Cuomo, who has led New York and the nation in properly dealing with covid, has now declared that in order to rejoin society a person must produce a vaccine passport. Officially known as an Excelsior Pass, it will become mandatory on April 2, 2021.

It does not however, say at what point it will become ‘not mandatory.’ I’m kind of thinking that the Governor might be thinking this could be a really good deal for elected officials to finally have some real job security. I mean, why limit such a valuable tool for keeping people controlled and safe, by letting the passport expire just because Covid has run its’ course. Not to worry, there’s undoubtedly a Democrat committee studying the possibilities as we speak.

According to the Governor, ‘Each pass will have a secure QR code which can be stored on your cellphone so participating businesses and venues can scan using a companion app…. An individual’s data is kept secure and confidential at all times.’

Whew! Gosh, for a minute there I thought just about anyone would be able to scan the database. I mean I had a crazy vision of some stranger scanning me because I wasn’t wearing a mask, and somehow reporting me to someone who would start counting up the strikes. You know, three and you’re out kind of stuff.

But now that the Governor has assured me the whole process will be secure and confidential, I won’t give it another thought. No, I won’t let myself think ridiculous thoughts like this might be a good start on a national database which will collect all kinds of information on people, like “Do you eat BBQ ribs and own an AR 15?”

You see the direction the mind can go when you refuse to put your faith and trust in government? You just end up constantly churning out these conspiracy theories. But after all the looney thoughts, I finally had my mind put to rest when I heard a rumor that Dominion would be handling the security. I mean, if you can’t trust your confidential information to the company that handles our national voting, then who can you trust?
